Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland -- long an opponent of expanded gambling in the Buckeye State -- has now reversed himself.
Rather than cut state programs, he has embraced expanded gambling as a way to pay for his policy preferences.

The revenues from slot machines in Ohio will now plug a gaping hole in the state budget of $3.2 billion.
The governor has plenty of support around the state for his expansion. A poll released by the University of Cincinnati indicated that 60 percent of Ohio residents favored expanded gambling. Only 38 percent were opposed to the proposal.
"When you attach gambling expansion to educational spending, you overcome any objections," said Grant Neeley, a political science professor at the University of Dayton.
