The director of Missouri's Gaming Commission says two of
the state's smaller casinos will survive -- and even thrive -- as their
entertainment parent company goes through bankruptcy.
Commission director Gene McNary said the company that owns casinos in St. Joseph and LaGrange is going through a "transition."
As part of its bankruptcy deal, Herbst Gaming Inc. has agreed to give up control of its 15 casinos, many of them in Nevada.
McNary says the two Missouri casinosare vital to their communities. While it's not clear whether they will be sold or taken over by investors, McNary said he is assured they are in no danger of closing.
Herbst also owns a casino in Osceola, Iowa, nearly 35 miles north of the Missouri border.
