Proprietor Jim Justice also unveiled architectural drawings for a casino , shops and restaurants featuring sushi and steaks that would be built under the resort's front lawn.

Gamblers would reach the operation via staircases and elevators near the hotel's front entrance.

The new set up "won't take away from anything," including Greenbrier's architecture, Justice said.

Designer Christina Roman said the objective is to "bring the integrity and elegance of the hotel into the casino." The Greenbrier's new vice president of casino operations, Todd Fishon, said adding gambling creates excitement for an "exquisite" property.

"It's just going to create such a wonderful opportunity," he said. "It's going to be elegant. It's going to be tasteful."

A businessman with interests in coal and agriculture, Justice bought The Greenbrier out of bankruptcy for $20.1 million in May.
